It’s back to school time. The most common thing I hear from friends is, “back to school is always so busy, I just can’t commit to <insert whatever.>” Well, to help you ease back into it, let’s start with a few organizing ideas!
First, if you haven’t already, you should consider saving up for packing your kiddo’s lunch now. School lunches aren’t as great as we wish they were and they’ll be packed with PINK SLIME! Start with saving $5 a day – skip your usual fast food lunch and pack one – it’s healthier anyway – here are some ideas that are great for grown-ups and kids.
Next, if you’re already freaking out about how to organize all those letters from the PTA, the principal, the teacher, the room mom, the sports coach, etc. Establish a command central right now. We found this dandy little idea on orgjunkie’s website. If you get it started right now, you’ll have time to practice with your own purse/briefcase contents and then once school starts, you’ll get the kids hooked on placing their correspondence in the right places…(sounds easy, right?)
Don’t forget about routines. Right now is a good time to get started putting the kids to bed and getting them up. Get all those B2S chores up like setting clothes out for the next day, packing lunch, etc.
We found this incredible article by the National Association of Professional Organizers. Who better to offer organizational advice than professionals?!?! They offer 15 TIPS FOR GETTING BACK INTO THE SCHOOL ROUTINE, including getting rid of old clothes, recycling school supplies from last year, labeling stuff, establishing a “homework area,” and deciding which school work you’ll save (rather than keeping every – albeit sweet – scrap of paper.)
If it seems a little overwhelming – take a moment to stop and breathe.
And please use these words as encouragement:
Always be joyful. Pray continually, and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
