Fructose no longer to blame for Obesity???

You know what Fructose is, don’t you? It’s also known as “fruit sugar.”

Have you ever heard of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)? Of course you have! People have been yelling at you for at least a few years now to stop eating the stuff because it’ll rot your teeth, expand your waistline and give you a heart attack.

Well, actually, researchers are still looking at the effects of HFCS. But I’ve read nearly 20 articles proclaiming the news that fructose is off the hook as a culprit for obesity.

Don’t everyone rush to the store for a Twinkie though! Doctors are still warning of the effects of too much sugar intake – whether from fructose, sucrose or HFCS…as a matter of fact: Read what happens to a person’s body after drinking a Coke.

Here’s my motto: moderation is key. I don’t drink soda. I do sweeten my coffee.  I do eat fruit, I don’t drink fruit juice (because they add a lot of sugar.)

Here are current nutritional guidelines: 

  • Women should intake no more than 100 calories a day from added sugar
  • Men should intake no more than 150 calories a day from added sugar

Here is the reality: American’s get more than 355 calories per day from added sugar!!!

So, even though the reports seem to be giving the “go-ahead” to hit the bakery and buy yourself a celebratory slice of strawberry overload double chocolate fudge cheesecake and a super duper slush to wash it down, take it easy.

Try to stay within the guidelines above for better health.
